San Luis Obispo County locals love our trees, and fortunately, we have the locally-owned Golden State Tree Service that loves and respects the trees, too.

The iconic California oak trees that grace the hills, roadsides, and vineyards top the list of favorites. The list of favorite trees and shrubs includes California natives such as a variety of pine trees, redwoods, cottonwoods, the bay laurel, and the manzanita. Shrubs include ceanothus, elderberry, lemonberry, and a variety of sages and buckwheats. Several naturalized ornamentals also make the list of favorites, and of course, all the fruit, nut, and olive trees.

Trees and shrubs fill our landscapes, line public streets and roads, stand sentinel duty on cliffs overlooking the ocean, and shade our backyards and parks.

Common FAQ's

Everything. Dry, overgrown weeds are fuel for wildfires. As fires burn through grass, the flames also ignite trees and low-hanging branches. Fire follows the fuel. Once the flames get into the trees, they move from tree to tree, becoming more difficult to extinguish. Keep weeds and low-hanging and dry branches under control, and you create a reduced fuel, or even a fuel-free zone, and help reduce the spread of wildfires.
We provide you with all of the documentation your insurance company requests, along with the paid invoice for our services. We don’t work directly with insurance companies. However, we are fully licensed and insured. We discuss our work warranty with you when we estimate the work you need. We are also available 24/7 for emergencies.
We prefer to leave a clean work site, but if you request that we leave wood and chips on your property for your personal use, we are happy to do so. We don’t recommend storing wood from diseased trees on your property. Even though the tree may have already died, the pathogens that caused the disease are still present and may spread to other trees. We also advise that when an insect infestation or disease has killed a tree, you keep an eye on the rest of the trees. The problem can spread if not treated. Your local farm bureau can provide resources to help you treat your trees for diseases and infestations to keep them healthy.
Yes. Some trees and shrubs benefit from regular trimming and pruning. Fruit and nut trees produce tastier fruit when they are correctly pruned. Some property owners like to keep their trees and shrubs trimmed and shaped. We are happy to set up regular maintenance schedules.
Yes. Normally, we work directly with the property owner, but in some cases, especially in certain kinds of lease situations, we can work with the tenant. Our insurance may require that we have written confirmation from the property owner before doing the work. We discuss our requirements with you before we start the job.
