Arroyo Grande tree service by Golden State Tree Service

Tree service for Arroyo Grande, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, and other coastal communities may require a different approach than that for inland trees. It’s important to work with a tree service that knows the differences between coastal and inland trees and shrubs.

  • Coastal trees are exposed to salt spray, sandy, and sometimes rocky soil. Even trees that are native to the California Central Coast can struggle to grow in these environmental influences.
  • The coastal winds can shape a tree, which is why we see so many ruggedly shaped, beautiful trees growing in coastal areas.
  • Saltwater intrusion can contribute to stunted growth and trees dying earlier than normal.
  • Ornamental and other trees that are not native to coastal environments may not be as hardy and struggle more to thrive.

Tree Service
for Arroyo Grande

Trees and shrubs growing in coastal regions may need a tree service more frequently than trees growing inland. Golden State Tree Service has been meeting the tree care needs of coastal communities since 2007. The services include:

  • Dead or fallen tree removal by removing branches and chipping them, and cutting the trunk into smaller pieces to be hauled away. Or, if you want the wood and chips, they can be left on your property for you.
  • Shrubbery removal and trimming creates more space for healthy shrubs to thrive and removes dry and dead shrubs so they are no longer a fire hazard.
  • Pruning and shaping trees and shrubs remove dead branches and restore the natural shape of the plant. Shaping is also an important service for ornamental shrubs, leaving them with a clean and tidy appearance.
  • Stump grinding to remove stumps so they are not hazardous and help free up space for other uses.
  • Live tree removal for trees that need to be removed for a variety of reasons, including the tree is in danger of falling over, it is diseased, it is growing in the wrong place, such as too close to a structure, is becoming a traffic hazard, or clearing property for a building site.
  • Mistletoe removal, especially for trees that may already be struggling in coastal or near-coastal conditions.
  • Weed abatement to remove dry weeds that are fire hazards.
  • Defensible space around homes, businesses, and other buildings is a fire prevention strategy that is now California law.

Common FAQ's

We clear the zones according to local regulations, prune and trim trees and shrubs to comply, and do weed abatement to remove fuel that can be ignited by embers and flames from wildfires.

Upon your request, we will also remove trees and shrubs to create the required reduced fuel spaces between trees and shrubs. We make recommendations for additional pruning or fuel removal, but the final decision is yours.

Property owners are required to create fire-safe zones up to 100 feet from structures or to the property line, whichever comes first. Three zones within that 100 feet have specific requirements:

Zone 0, called the ember-free zone, extends 5 feet from a structure and is free of flammable materials to reduce the opportunity for windborne embers from a fire igniting anything within that zone.

Zone 1 extends up to 30 feet from structures and all dead plants, grass and weeds need to be removed.

Zone 2, which extends up to 100 feet, or the property line, requires the ground to be kept clear of flammable vegetation and that trees and shrubs be spaced out and kept trimmed to reduce the chances of fire spreading.

California Public Resources Code 4291 defines the state’s requirements for defensible space, but cities and counties within the state may have their own, stricter regulations. Local fire departments and Cal Fire enforce defensible space laws. Most local fire departments and city and county governments have information available to help residents and business owners design and landscape for each zone. Our Golden State Tree Service team makes sure all of the zones are cleared of vegetation and trees and shrubs are trimmed according to the local requirements.
Yes, if you choose the service, we add the cost to your estimate. Some of our customers choose to just leave the stump, others prefer that we cut it as close to the ground as possible. A few prefer other methods, and we can recommend alternatives to stump grinding.
Yes. Fruit trees stay healthier and produce more fruit when they are regularly pruned. Their energy goes into producing more delicious fruit instead of growing branches. We are happy to help you keep your fruit and nut trees happy and fruitful and we recommend seasonal pruning and can help you set up a schedule.
Yes. Maintaining private power lines is the responsibility of the property owners. Public responsibility ends at the point where a private line connects to the public power grid. We can prune branches away from private power lines and also remove dead and dying trees that are too close to power lines. Removing damaged trees eliminates the risk that they will fall onto the power line, causing a loss of power and possible fire.
